Very few people in the world are touched to the extent of tacking remedial action by the plight of orphans and vulnerable children. It has been only the business of donors and churches. Edith however, showed the world that even individuals can donate and help the poor. After volunteering for a week at Chiedza, when she was on her annual leave, she identified an orphan at the centre- Miriam and bought her a uniform. Miriam used to wear tattered uniforms and clothes becauses she had no one to help her. Chiedza has been paying school fees but did not manage to buy a uniform. Miriam on the 3rd of November could not hide her joy when she said,"i never dreampt of putting on a unform this year or any time soon. I thought it was for the rich. ....This day i thank you sister Edith for remembering me and also doing this for me.Thank you." Edith indicated that she was touched to see this grade five pupil at Shingirai primary school in Harare going to school in tatterred uniforms. "I decided to sacrifice because l used to see this kid coming to the centre in tattered uniforms for the afternoon sessions. In most of the times she would withdraw herself from others becuase of this. I am sure now she will feel part and parcel of the Chiedza family and also her school family." Chiedza hopes that many people will follow this great example.

Chiedza orphans commemorate the lives of their departed parents

Chiedza and caregivers putting flowers on the wall of memories  at Chiedza.

On the 30th of July 350 children managed to commemorate the lives of their departed beloved ones on an event organised by Chiedza dupped "Memorial day".It was not the usual memorial service but rather, a time to reflect, come to terms with the loss of the beloved ones, thus in a way healing the emotional wounds which they carried for long.   After receiving a speech from a Salvation Army Captain which exhorted them emotionally , the partcipants progressed  to the wall of memories , a designated place where names of those who departed are writtern for rememberance. The event is one of Chiedza grief work tools or bereavment counseling tool in that children and caregivers are then assisted by social workers to accept the loss of their beloved ones. This came amid reports of some local practices which encourage people to tell orphans that their parents are alive and will one day come back. This makes the children to hate their parents and to keep faith and hope on what will never be seen (the dead parents). Parents were on  this day advised on the need to disclose death to children so that they do not suffer from delayed grief. This affects the children's pyschosocial well being and their holistic developed as they will be experiencing emotional pain. Most children and caregivers testified that they had accepted the painful loss.
